Gil-Air Plus Personal Sampler

The GilAir® Plus features wide dynamic flow and pressure ranges to address all personal air sampling methods with flow ranges between 20 and 5,000 cc/min. With patent pending QuadModeSM air sampling technology, the GilAir® Plus can perform both high-flow constant pressure and constant flow (450-5,000 cc/min) and low-flow constant pressure and constant flow (20-499 cc/min) with a single pump without external adaptors. It's like getting two pumps in one.
GilAir® Plus is a smart pump that provides ambient or standard temperature and pressure corrected display (STP model) and data-logging for up to 16 sampling events (STP and Datalog model). The pump has high back pressure capability of up to 40" H2O in high flow and up to 25" H2O in low flow. An automatic self check system ensures sample accuracy. In the event of a fault condition, the pump's selectable automatic fault recovery feature attempts to restart the pump up to 10 times every 3 minutes to determine if the fault condition has been cleared.
An intuitive menu, keypad interface and large, easy-to-read back-lit display makes adjusting pump settings quick and easy. Once the pump is set up, the keypad can be locked to prevent tampering. Convenient and innovative SmartCalSM feature provides automatic pump calibration.
One-third smaller than traditional personal air sampling pumps and weighing less than 21 oz. (595 g), the GilAir® Plus provides superior operator comfort. An integrated belt clip securely attaches the pump in a horizontal position, allowing workers a full range of motion to perform a wide variety of tasks without interference or discomfort.
The GilAir® Plus dock provides charging and communication functions for the STP and data-logging models. Once docked, the PC application allows users to review datalogs, generate sampling reports, manage sampling programs, and create pump set-up profiles that expedite deployment of large pump fleets. The SmartCalSM feature uses the dock as a communication link between appropriate calibration devices and the GilAir® Plus. SmartCalSM automates calibration and records pre and post sample calibrations in the pump's datalog.

H-PEM Personal Impactor for PM-10,PM-2.5 and PM1

The BGI H-PEM is a development of the Environmental Science and Engineering Group at the Harvard School of Public Health. It is a group of four impactors designed to be worn on the person in order to closely gage their exposure to PM2.5 or PM10 concentrations at 2 different flow rates. This results in four models. What makes this set of instruments so unique and superior to similar devices is the bold use of Silicone grease to capture the unwanted particles. The bias caused by particle bounce and the very questionable results obtained when impacting solid particles upon dry surfaces is completely eliminated. The truth of the superiourity of these assertions is bourne out by the large numbers in use as demonstrated by over 100 web entries.

The ability to evaluate exposures to PM10 and PM2.5 is amply borne out by the emphasis placed upon these two measurands, worldwide. PM10 is important in Air Pollution, IAQ and Industrial Hygiene. PM2.5 is the premier measurement when considering Air Pollution exposure as well as IAQ. It is not an offical Industrial exposure measurement, but it is increasingly being used because it is viewed as more stringent than a respirable measurement.

Sensidyne Personal Dust Monitor

The Sensidyne Nephelometer is an advanced real-time dust monitor accurately measuring dust concentrations using proven light scatter technology. This portable instrument accurately measures and records dust from 1-10,000 ́g/m3 with resolution to 1 ́g/m3. Sample modes are selectable between 60 second sample, 15 minute STEL, or continuous sampling.

The Nephelometer has an internal pump drawing samples into the iso-kinetic sampling inlet where they meet sheath air that guides samples past the particle sensor. The sensor is a photo detector that measures laser light scattered by particulates in the sample stream. The instrument multiplies each measurement by a K-factor and displays the real-time reading on the display of the instrument. After each sample, the K-factor and Environmental Factor Name and STEL, maximum, minimum, and average readings record to the internal data log. When connected to a computer the instrument uploads up to 4,000 data-log records in spreadsheet format.

In addition to high sensitivity and ease-of-use the Sensidyne Nephelometer offers a low cost of ownership, automatic power save, long-life, data-logging, facility monitoring features, and user-replaceable filters.

    Applications:
  • Indoor air quality monitoring
  • Walk-Through surveys
  • Personal exposure monitoring
  • Time and motion studies
  • Workplace and plant monitoring
  • Remediation site worker surveillance
  • Remote alarming
  • Mobile monitoring in vehicles and aircraft
  • Unattended long-term monitoring

Key Features and Benefits:

Measures Airborne Particulates Concentration in Real Time
With conventional air quality monitoring methods, you won't find out until tomorrow that you have reached dangerous levels or are out of compliance today.  In contrast, the personal DataRAMTM alerts you to a problem within seconds and allows you to take immediate corrective action.  It stores this information in detail for subsequent retrieval / printout / graphing via a computer.

The world's smallest and most versatile direct reading personal aerosol monitor, the personalDataRAM measures mass concentrations of dust, smoke, mists, and fumes in real-time, and sounds an on-board audible alarm whenever a user-defined level is exceeded.  Integral large-capacity data logging capability permits storage of 13,000 data points in up to 99 discrete tags.  Any tag can store up to 13,000 averages plus tag maximum and STEL values.  When you begin a run, the instrument automatically tags and time stamps the data collected.

Highest Performance of Any Real-Time Personal Particulate Monitor
With a measurement range from 0.001 to 400 mg/m3 (auto-ranging), an optically feedback-stabilized sensing system, ultra-low power consumption, and rigid all-metal construction, the personalDataRAM sets new standards for sensitivity, long-term stability, and reliability.  These capabilities allow its use in many applications where such compact monitors were previously considered unsuited.

Easy to Read Two-Line Display
The personalDataRAM's two-line LCD readout continuously displays both real-time and time averaged (TWA) concentration values, updated every second.  Other screens are easily selected by scrolling through a simple user-friendly menu.  Self-diagnostics continually monitor the unit's operation and flag any problems.  LCD screens indicate remaining memory, battery status, optical background level, as well as any electronic malfunctions may also be selected.

Only four tactile-feedback keys (including On-Off) are required to perform all operations and commands, such as enable / disable logging and alarms, review of program parameters, and review of maximum / STEL data.

Extremely Compact and Rugged Design
Palm-sized, the pDR-1000AN weighs only 1/2 kilogram (18 ounces).  The unit can be attached to a belt or shoulder strap, hand-held, operated on a table top, or mounted on a tripod.

The personalDataRAM's rugged, yet attractive, brushed aluminum case is designed to protect the unit's optics and electronics in even the harshest industrial environments.  Heavy-duty molded bumpers shield the monitor from inadvertent mishandling and moderate impact.  The absence of any moving parts (e.g., pumps, motors, valves, etc.) and the use of low-power semiconductor components throughout ensures long life and failure-free operation.

Sensing Principle Achieves High Correlation with Gravimetric Measurements
The personalDataRAM is a light-scattering photometer (i.e., nephelometer) that incorporates a pulsed, high output, near-infrared light emitting diode source, a silicon detector / hybrid preamplifier, collimating optics, and a source reference feedback PIN silicon detector.  The intensity of the light scattered over the forward angle of 45o to 90o by the airborne particles passing through the sensing chamber is linearly proportional to their concentration.

The personalDataRAM's optical configuration produces optimal volume response to particles in the size range of 0.1 to 10µm, achieving high correlation with standard gravimetric measurements of the respirable and thoracic fractions.

Passive Air Sampling is Silent and Reliable
The personalDataRAM's passive air sampling technique has been thoroughly field-proven since 1980.  Air surrounding the monitor circulates freely through the open sensing chamber by natural convection, diffusion, and background air motion.  With this passive nephelometer sampling method, concentration measurements do not depend on the air velocity through the sensing chamber.

Easy Programming and Downloading with a Computer
The personalDataRAM is easily programmed from any IBM-compatible personal computer.  Using the pDR-COM software provided with the unit, operating parameters such as logging period, display averaging time, alarm level, and mode can be modified.  With logging enabled, the unit automatically tags and time stamps the data collected, then stores the data for subsequent retrieval / printout / graphing.  The personalDataRAM retains the setup information until the next.

Using the pDR-COM software, logged data can be downloaded to a PC for direct tabular and graphic display, and/or printout.  The data can be imported into most common spreadsheet programs by following the instructions provided.

Simple Zeroing and Calibration
Each personalDataRAM comes gravimetrically calibrated (NIST-traceable) in mg/m3 using standard SAE fine (ISO fine) test dust.  Zeroing with particle free air is accomplished quickly and effectively under field conditions using the zeroing kit (included).  Special firmware controls an automatic calibration check referenced to the optical background set at the factory.  Gravimetric field calibration can be performed by comparison with a filter sampler and by programming of the calibration constant.

Three Power Options
The personalDataRAM can be powered by:

  • A replaceable 9V alkaline "transistor" battery that provides up to 20 hours of operation
  • AC line power and a universal voltage power supply (included) for long-term, continuous monitoring
  • Optional rechargeable, sealed nickel-metal-hydride battery pack that attaches rigidly to the personalDataRAM's base, providing up to 72 hours of operation between charges

For maximum flexibility, power sources can be changed even while operating the unit.

Maintenance, Service, and Factory Support
The personalDataRAM has no moving parts to wear out.  Only the 9V battery needs to be replaced.  Instructions for simple and easy periodic cleaning of the sensing chamber are provided.  Routine factory check-out and calibration are recommended on a two-year cycle.

Our experienced technical/applications support team can provide expert advice and practical solutions to aerosol-related problems.  This invaluable resource is available to customers for the life of our instruments, many of which have been in field use for more than a quarter of a century.
